2nd Place @ the Del Mar Fair.

So I actually entered the Del Mar Fair's photography contest this year. I submitted 4 photographs and one made it. I know or have a pretty good assumption as to why the other 3 didn't make it. It only makes me think harder about next years submissions. So on to my one photo that actually did make it and made 2nd place in the cityscape/architecture division.

A better picture of the photo is here. I didn't know that we couldn't take pictures in the reception and one of the people working there bumped into me when I took the photo. After he found out it was my photo he said it was OK but I never got another picture. I'll be going back this Fri/Sat and will update to a better one then.

As for the competition there were a lot of wonderful entries. I even felt mine wasn't worthy of 2nd place after I saw 3rd, 4th and some honorable mentions. Which I thought were much better than mine. However, I think 1st place was probably worth a 4th place or honorable. Go figure.

I have some really great idea's for 2011.

Well I bought a new point and shoot.

So what did I finally settle on? The Sony DSC TX7. I know... I wanted something waterproof for my upcoming trip to Hawaii but the options on the TX7 were more than enough for me to disregard the underwater capabilities. Really would I being using it any other time than Hawaii? Probably not. Any case I love it and it's image quality is outstanding.

Lumix DMC-TS2 Digital Camera

So I'm looking around for a better point and shoot camera. The Sony just isn't producing the quality I'm looking for nor does it have the extra added comfort of knowing if I drop, bang or hit it against something hard, accidentally drop it in water (up to 33ft), take it out to the dusty wilderness (camping for me) or decide to visit the 14* Fahrenheit snow (yeah right... but I could) it'll work just fine. This is the 2nd version of the TS and it has a lot going for it. It has 14.1 mega-pixels, LED flash lighting, Smart Resolution, does HD video and... well here's a more in depth review of the specifications. Plus it comes in a variety of colors! Orange being my favorite.

I've decided to try this camera out because I worry about using my point and shoot digi on saltwater fishing boats. I worry about getting it wet, fishy, getting it knocked around, dropping it or losing it overboard. Same thing when I'm at the lake or river. Plus there's no way I'm taking my 7D. I will be waiting a few months just because I'd like to see the price come down a bit but this will be mine soon enough. Right now the average price is about $350-$400(USD) via Amazon.com. It is on my wish list if anyone loves me that much.  :)

San Diego in the morning.

This week has been super productive. Even though none of the 10 resume's I sent out have answered back I did a lot. I still haven't played any World of Warcraft since about mid January when it decided it didn't want to play for me any more. Yes, I know just reinstall and all will be fine but I'm liking the break for now. So it all started with Lady Borgia's photo shoot last Friday, then fishing on Monday, Tuesday the Zoo and the rest of the week with family. Then Fishing on Thursday (I caught a shark) and finished editing the Lady's pictures (check last entry). So here's a few shots from all that... well mostly the fishing and the zoo.

Wonderful view from Shelter Island Pier. Didn't catch anything but saw a wonderful sunrise then later on dolphins playing just a few hundred feet away. These were taken with my Sony DSC W220 (which is for sale, email me if interested).

Lady Borgia Teaser...

So recently I did a photo shoot for a friend. Kelly aka "Lady Borgia" invited me to help take some pictures of her modeling some new styles for Temptress Fashions. Went down with my camera in hand and had a blast! In any case I have a ton of pictures to go through and fix, edit and beautify. However, her is a sneak peek... hope you like.

Cats

It's no surprise I love cats. I want to try to start taking pictures of the stray and feral cats around San Diego. So if you have a colony or just a few random strays that won't run away at the smallest attempt to get close let me know. The 3 cats below are from Christal's neighborhood. The black and white was the oldest and very friendly. The other two were still pretty young and wary about anyone getting closer than 5 feet. I did get some nice shots though.
